rafin Well, there is people that treat this series as a masterpiece from Anno, not at the same level than Evangelion, but at least a proper masterpiece or at least they like it very much and have very fond memories about watching this series. This series got a release on Blu-ray because this month is the 20th anniversary of the end of the original broadcast of the TV series and that was the last TV series by Hideaki Anno without a Blu-ray release, the only anime left from Anno without a Blu-ray are little things he was directly or indirectly involved as Ebichu or Re:Cutie Honey, those two could also get BD Boxes on their respective twentieth anniversaries. The animation should not be deemed as trash, more like typical from what you could expect from the late 90s anime TV series plus Anno and Gainax getting artsy and experimental up to eleven and then you get the production trainwreck created by the drama queen of the original author that was a complete asshole with Anno, so she basically got blacklisted herself on the anime industry, that is why the 90s TV series of Karekano is the only adaptation you will see coming from one of her works. Still, it is funny to see Anno and Khara so heavily involved on this new release, well, maybe she was obliged by her publisher to stay silent or at least to give a nice face to the public for this new release, money is money after all.

Lots of unknowns. Thanks for letting me know :D Don't get me wrong I love the series. This is one of my most favorite shoujo series but the animation was bad in later episodes. I don't remember exactly how many of those were, but the last couple of episodes were like slideshow of manga XD

rafin Yes, those are the chapters of Karekano that are derided by the people, same as the Island Arc of Nadia, but well, those are the chapters where the production was already a complete chaos, because you know, Anno tends to burn the budget earlier than what should be ideal and to get behind schedule to nearly insurmountable levels, so if you add the original author harassing Anno because she doesn't like what Anno is doing with the series, then what you had is a "fuck this shit, I'm outta here" from Anno and Gainax resulting on the complete collapse of the production on the last episodes.

Re:Cutie Honey already got a Blu-ray release six years ago, principeinquisidor. And I still hope Oruchuban Ebichu and the other two Anime Ai no Awa Awa Hour shows will get one someday, even though Anno was only responsible for planning them and didn't actually direct them.

If you consider this anime only until the episode 18, this is a masterpiece without a doubt.

Zhou Well, the Blu-ray release of Re:Cutie Honey was not listed on Blu-ray.com or the Japanese Wikipedia article, so I thought there was not release, but yeah, I made a Google search using the Japanese name and BD as keywords and it was right there on Amazon Japan :facepalm: So one more release to hunt down, shame that AsianDVDClub is currently down. Anno is credited with planning together with Gainax on Ebichu and it must be something important because those credits are right there on the cover of the DVD volumes. Also Ebichu was broadcasted from 01.08.1999 till 01.10.1999, so its 20th anniversary is pretty close, plus it is the last 90s TV series by Gainax without a Blu-ray release, the mangaka started a sequel past year after nearly 11 years since the end of the first series and currently this series has got so popular to the point it has its own Twitter account: https://twitter.com/ebichu_jp and line of merchandise: http://ebichu.main.jp/ So we could say that there is big chance of getting a Blu-ray Box later this year, although it may very well be a upscaled version like this Karekano Blu-ray release. And yeah, I watched the DVD version of Ebichu and I loved it, so a version with even a little better video and sound quality would be pretty welcome. Now that I have downloaded the whole torrent, I ask where I can get English or Spanish subs that I can sync with the episodes.
