Full disclosure: I am a native English speaker but I do not speak Japanese. I have no experience with translating or subbing, I'm just someone who knows how to edit a text file. These subs are translated into English by me from the Chinese translation by Suzu-Kaze&PusRaws, which I believe to be very good. I know this is not ideal but it's all I can bring to the table.
I actually really like this series and felt that the author did a relatively good job of keeping the plot coherent while adding more and more elements to the story. I did this translation because I felt that this arc ties the whole series together and the existing English translations didn't do it justice. I don't think people should be hard on Mushin for his translations because without the groundwork he laid I would not have had the heart to do this. So special thanks to Mushin.
I wanted to do the whole arc myself for consistency and completeness. The amount of terminology in this series that have no direct English equivalent is staggering. I realize that Ringoha made a good translation for episode 10 but I didn't know if it was okay to edit someone else's translation, so I just translated episode 10 on my own.
Here is what I did:
- Took the subtitle files from "(subs only) Strike the Blood S1 + OVA (Valkyria no Oukoku-hen) + II (S2) + III (S3)" and picked out episodes 07-10 by Mushin as the base textfile.
- Took the Traditional Chinese translation from "[Suzu-Kaze&PusRaws] Strike the Blood III OVA [BDRip 1920x1080 HEVC YUV420P10 FLAC](繁體外掛)" and translated the Chinese to English.
- Consulted the wikia for terminology and made some of my own word choices when it was unclear. Props to Mushin for getting all the proper nouns correct and saving me a lot of time.
- Modified some timings to make it flow better.
- Left all the OP and ED translations as they were.
- Tested the subs with the Mushin release and some of the 1080p raws.
So feel free to give me some feedback on:
- Quality of my work
- Errors/Suggestions/Criticisms
- Whether anything I did was inappropriate
And now we wait for season 4 :)
I am not a native english, but i much appreciate the effort to do this job, when a sub are not an eyesore anymore. I faced many times with terrible subs, most on my own language, but the biggest shame, who did it wa also a native,,,, and no one take care to correct it, So i just welcome any effort which helps to increase the quality. Carry on.
We are being harsh on Mushin for his/her own good because we want him/her to improve his/her English and not be so lazy. The main issue with all these people that come online, post something, and put a reminder that english is not their 1st/native/whatever language, is that when they come back again and again, they do not improve. If you are going to communicate or use a language for a long term, especially so when you are helping others in the world of translation, why not learn it and improve upon it? I have nothing against people posting their works and getting feedback with poor language. I hate people that keep posting newer and newer works that never improve or become even worse despite those feedback and time they had in between. If you are lazy, why bother subbing at all?
My problem is people who upload things half-assed. They Translate a few episodes and then disappear, they can't speak english, can't read english. The FanSub community is a god damn travesty now. I remember like...10 years ago, I could get an anime episode translated within 24 hrs of its TV release with accurate and complete subtitles. I could get any Anime I wanted translated. Now....All the good ones have completely vanished. We're left with the people who just don't care anymore. I'm thinking the Anime craze in the west has died.
tHANKS WILL GIVE THESE A GO :) (caps! New shoddy keyboard to return) It is not lazy I think rather knowledge - having anyone help out (especially on a hung series) I appreciate & as mushin said take it & please do better. The west is not less anime crazy but people move on & groups too. Encouraging new ones is important. (BTW I am happy to help as a native Eng speaker/writer). Plus so much more anime these days to cover (better than 90's unreleased anime & games outside Japan).
So thanks & if unhappy help sort better I say. Godz I'm still looking for subs to Nazca! Constructive crit not panning I guess :) On an off note it is interesting how Japanese is profoundly changing Eng words to fit their speech nowadays. If interested the difference is in tongue muscles unused by Nihon. Happens across other languages too (eng is changing germanic). Universally I guess more understanding is good. Similarly less Eng speakers understand Japanese via video media due to constructing translations into Eng sentence format. However we can all learn & input :)
I myself had lost hope waiting for Lean-subs so I finally gave in and gave these a shot. Very good subs, wouldn't say there was much of a difference between these and the sub quality you would find from, say, a HorribleSubs rip for a regular show.
Force re-check your torrent and see if it works. Otherwise check if your torrent program put the files in some other place. If it still doesn't work the Judas release uses my subs for the last 4 episodes.
