CXRAW encodes are generally really good despite the source.

@Impakt: I *rarely* download from CXRAW, but the one or two torrents I have downloaded have been good quality. Once I get an episode, I will post mediainfo here since the uploader didn't bother to. Maybe I'll post some screenshots too so people know what they're getting. If this torrent is as good as I think it will be, I'll delete my encode. =)

NobodysLoveMalus Think that's called film reel. The 2006 DBZ DVDs from Selecta Visión during a Freeza arc episode show the film reel too, but in much better condition.

@Switchrescore It's not a rumor. They put fake grain on it. This release is encoded at crf 21 if I am not mistaken, so it's mostly blurred out. @Impakt That's Chinese.

@Impakt - that first link is also Chinese. You can tell because they wrote "Majin Boo" as 魔人布 instead of 魔人ブウ. The second one does have Japanese titles though. @Switchrescore - Funimation can do good remasters when they dedicate the necessary resources to it. They have done some of the best ones, actually. Sadly the badly-timed Level Sets apparently caused them to lose faith that a good remaster would sell well enough to justify the cost. (Yes, that one had issues too, but it's a lot better than this.)

For example, the GT Singles looked way better than the "remastered" Green Bricks. FUNimation knows what they're doing, but they've gotten used to this attitude of theirs of giving us shit.

I couldn't care less about the consensus of YouTubers. I have scrutinized Funimation's work with my own eyes and I know that they are capable of doing good work. Toei is not ever going to revoke their license and if you think that is a possibility you are delusional, which makes sense if you're depending on YT hacks for your opinions.

What's sad is that these are the same people who were sucking Funi's dick a year ago, and they're arguably the main reason why Funi has been impervious to criticism for so long. So Funi finally does something good and gets rid of anime's most notorious con creep, and *now* they're crying? For fuck's sake, this is why we can't have nice things.

Funimation doesn't suck at doing remasters. They do this on purpose. Look at Dragon Ball and DBGT. They did perfectly fine remasters without any hardcore DNR filtering, widescreen crop, or messing with the colors. But they did all three with the orange bricks, then fixed a problem or two with the season sets, and fixed another problem or two with this release. Why? Because DBZ is the most profitable of the three series. Funimation can milk DBZ as they've been doing by releasing something initially horrible (orange bricks), and then making a slightly better release later (season sets, 30th set). DB and DBGT can't be milked the same way so they did a perfectly normal remaster and released them once in a fairly faithful set for how they should be viewed. This is not incompetence. Remember, they aren't dumb enough to make normal releases for DB and DBGT, then suddenly forget how to remaster and release something like the season sets or the 30th. It's on purpose. It's just to milk it as long as they can.

I know everyone hates on this release, i like having the ability to check them out, looking forward to seeing how it is, Dragon Box is awesome, but definitely has issues, i'm sure this one does too but hopefully the issues are different enough to make it somewhat worth while, with that in mind anyone up for the task of syncing the broadcast audio to this set? https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1190222 I imagine the later seasons should look better than the first few, that holds on the dragon box where the quality gets better (colors and image quality) hopefully they only massacred the first few seasons and the later parts are pretty on point. (haven't watched this version, i use the r2 remux with broadcast audio to watch, and iKaos version for english dub for nostalgia when watching with friends or my kids) but will be nice to have this around with broadcast audio.

I already did it and I'll upload it tomorrow after I finish checking the last batch of episodes. The first few seasons look relatively good. The Cell arc is the worst.

Levels, definitely. I wish they were completed. They're definitely not a perfect remaster; one could argue there's still too much grain, and some of the detail is lost in darkness, but it's the best HD remaster we've seen. I prefer it to Kai, personally; Kai has bad blur issues quite aside from the redrawn stuff. (The redraws are what sink it below the Levels for me, and that's before we get to Boo Kai which is 16:9 and green.)
