Encoded from R2J DVD with subtitles from AniMecha Dual Audio: Japanese (Stereo Dolby AC-3), English (Stereo Dolby AC-3).
I did a few DVD encodes because I originally wanted to compare them against those SD on BD or 1080i releases. To see if those BDs were worth it–they weren’t. However, since I’d already done the encodes I figured why not do a few more. There are plenty of series which haven’t yet gotten the HD treatment and are getting more difficult to find… Besides, you don’t see many x265 encodes for SD media. Don’t expect them to be game changers–no codec is going to make a DVD look any better–but it never hurts to update the formats so these series aren’t lost to time. As usual, I left the original audio untouched since there is little to be gained from compressing it further and squeezing every last byte isn’t as important today. I have dozens of DVDs for older series laying around and since they take a fraction of the time to encode compared with a BD, I will probably do more SD releases.
