akabane
is this archival worthy release for this series?
Kira_SEV (uploader)
@akabane Is it not enough or is it too much? ?
If you like to see fights with true manliness then sure it deserves a quality release.
Info :- There’s no BluRay for Baki 2018, so gonna release a WebRip soon.
Kinganime
wow thanks. excellent release

Perfect timing since the Netflix S2 is coming out soon!
Kira_SEV (uploader)
@SomaHeir Enjoy! 2018 and 2020 seasons are currently on encoding queue. Will release as soon as it’ll be finished.

@Mizore You’re welcome. Enjoy!

Just finished watching this show, and for those who are curious to see the extended versions of episodes 45-46, I recommend downloading the torrent below:
https://nyaa.iss.one/view/817132
Sadly, the subs for the extra footage are pretty bad. They must have been ripped from HK bootleg DVDs.
Anyway, thanks for this torrent, particularly the manga part.
Kira_SEV (uploader)
@Zhou You’re welcome. I can assure you it was not easy to arrange the manga. :)
TheRatedRab
@Zhou Can you explain the difference between both the torrents? I would like to know which one is the best in terms of quality and is worth downloading. Thanks.
Zhou
@TheRatedRab, the main difference is that the torrent I linked to includes episodes ripped from the Japanese R2 DVDs. That’s why they have different opening themes by Ryoko Aoyagi (both of which were replaced by dir en grey’s “Child Prey” in all international releases), and episodes 45-46 have extra footage that shows the US Army in a very bad light during the Vietnam War. I suppose the Japanese themselves removed those scenes from the broadcast versions because those episodes aired mere months after 9/11, so they didn’t want to be insensitive. Funimation’s DVD release, which this torrent is ripped from, features a Japanese disclaimer at the beginning of episode 45 saying “In consideration of current world affairs, portions of this episode differ from the manga”. That disclaimer is not present in the extended version ripped from the Japanese release, although the group that encoded it mistakenly kept the subtitles that translated it.
The main problem with other torrent is that the first four episodes have subs ripped from the wrong track (the one that’s based on Funimation’s dub script rather than the one that faithfully translates the original dialogue), and the fact that the extra footage in episodes 45-46 is poorly translated and subbed. I’d recommend you to watch this torrent instead, and then download the other one just to check out the extra footage and the original opening themes.
TheRatedRab
@Zhou Thank you very much for your detailed answer. I’ll check this torrent out.
Shortcut

Thanks, I am all done seeding and downloading!
TabaBandit
super based good looks bro
tdsii
S1E06 is hard subbed. i have a feeling that this wasn’t the original aspect ratio as well.
jiripraptak
This could have been a great release, except you should have used detelecine instead of deinterlace. And the cropping could have been better.
jiripraptak
Is there a plan to release v2?
Lemonov
Considering the context about episodes 45-46, yes it definitely needs a V2. The subs on that release are dogshit but the extra content is worth preserving.
Kira_SEV (uploader)
@tdsii I think you’re commenting on wrong post here. I rewatched E06 without subs and I saw no signs of hardcoded subs. Might wanna take a look again.
As for AR, it was kinda weird but this was kind of 16:9 video in a letterboxed 4:3 with all black bars, so I’ve removed those. That’s why AR is like this but it’s correct picture AR.
@jiripraptak I’ve no idea why do you want me to detelecine and no deinterlace. I tried few setting with IVTC and nothing gave me better picture than this encode already have.
If you saw any deinterlcaing artifacts then let me know. If you have any comparison results where you got better using IVTC then let me know, I’ll look into it but one thing is sure, IVTC doesn’t give any better results than this already have.
As for cropping, if you look closely, frames size is not consistent, some fill the whole screen and some have slight black bars on right side or left side, instead of cutting the image, I went with the idea the keep a width to have all.
@Lemonov I tried to find the R2J DVDs but no luck, so I don’t have a source to use for those uncut versions.
If someone have the DVDs and is willing to share with me then let me know, I’ll gladly add that to this collection.
I started re-testing this to see if it needs a REPACK, but it doesn’t seem like it needs a REPACK at all. If I’m missing anything then let me know.
jiripraptak
@Kira_SEV Hi. I probably could have worded it better. If you look at your video frame by frame, especially at panning scenes, you notice that every fourth and fifth frame is the same with slight warping, or ghosting (due to deinterlace). That is the result of deinterlacing telecined content. The telecine is used to convert 24fps to 29 fps, and it does so by slicing doubling and merging half of the frames. You can read on it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three-two_pull_down. The solution would be to use IVTC first (before other filters), as it does not create artifacts, and is basically lossless (It removes the doubled frames and converts 29fps back to 24fps) and then use the other filters, including deinterlace. (because IVTC can differentiate between telecined and interlaced content, but deinterlace filter sees them as same) As for the cropping, forget what I said. It was probably something minor. The major thing is the IVTC as using it before other filters will make the video objectively better.
Kira_SEV (uploader)
@jiripraptak I did tried both and a lot of combed frames came out in results. Looked way worse than this.
I found another set of DVDs. Looks like Chinese version. Colors looks way better than this one.
Gonna try to encode that one.
Also planning to OCR the subs to ASS.
It’ll take a lot of time, so don’t expect V2 anytime soon.
jiripraptak
@Kira_SEV That is weird. IVTC should remove combed frames, not create them. Maybe wrong IVTC settings, or someone filtered the source after telecining? Anyway, I made a comparison. I used a different release, as i noticed yours has Japanese credits and mine has English, but it seems they are based on same source. (Interesting to note, in my source the opening seems to use different version of converting 24 to 29 fps, as it just uses the same frame twice, while yours was probably telecined and filtered by the publisher, so in both cases IVTC will not help at all for OP and probably ED). In the comparison I use same frame naming as the wiki page. Also you can see the raw source with visible telecine combing. Then my source with only deinterlace filter and your release, which is what led me to believe that you used deinterlace on telecined content. And lastly what IVTC’d source looks like (one frame is dropped, but slowpics wanted same number of pictures). So, if your raw source has the same combing as my raw source, then I would try different IVTC settings. However if not, then it can’t be helped. https://slow.pics/c/cPFo4Zj8
I tried to do my own encode before, but could not quite deal with the dot crawl, so I gave up on it. I also did some OCR, so I could hook you up if you wanted to. I think I finished OCR’ing and QC’ing the first season (If my folder naming is to be believed lol). But its from this release, so the timing will probably be different than the Chinese release.
Kira_SEV (uploader)
@jiripraptak The source have both ENG and JAP OP and ED. You probably REMUXed with ENG version. I chose to go with JP version.
I forgot I did fixed most of the issues and even re-encoded Kid Saga but there were some of the frames that I didn’t liked but couldn’t do anything about it. I used both deinterlacing (selected) and IVTC.
I cleaned up the source as much I could without hurting the details much. I usually prefer the details but this time I went with more filters to clean this one.
Then I found that new source, so I stopped working on that and started other projects.
I would love have your subs if you’ve fixed up the spelling mistakes or anything like that after OCR otherwise it’s the same work for me to do.
If you’re interested to help me with subs or anything, share your Discord, I’ll ping you.
jiripraptak
@Kira_SEV Sure. My discord is jpraptak
