For ease of use, I have only repacked the .m2ts files into an mkv container, and renamed each audio track. These files are the full 1:1, bit for bit data from the disc. They have not been re-encoded/compressed in any way. Unfortunately, at present, I am only able to seed for a few hours a night, so any help in seeding this would be greatly appreciated. Peace.

Apologies guys. Seeding seems to be very slow to start, but will continue all through the night. Many thanks for any assistance.
@Gordon_Bennett omg i loved this, thanks so much

Sorry everyone. I've recently moved, and the internet here is nowhere near as good as I used to have. I will endeavor to seed this for as long as possible. I will be back again tomorrow night to continue seeding, and every night thereafter. I apologize for the slow speed.
Any chance of a couple of screenshots? I didn't even know this was getting a BD and now I'm really curious to see what it looks like.

To be honest, the print isn't all that sharp. Certain scenes appear sharp, but others less so. The quality is high, but, I would suggest activating a mild sharpening filter via MPC-HC player or similar. They have made it so that the image is 4:3 viewable, contained in a 16:9 widescreen resolution. Screenshots here: https://ibb.co/4WS4vxD https://ibb.co/WkjFgG0 https://ibb.co/9Tf5mvK https://ibb.co/PTZzxP0 https://ibb.co/3rtDG0m https://ibb.co/kHC4VKB My internet here sucks guys (I had no idea how much). It's gonna be a while. But hey, we got time rn.
looks like an SD upscale to me

Hopefully someone can take the Japanese or Russian DVD video and combine the BD audio, as the upscale looks crap in motion.
Wow, not only is it definitively an upscale as herkz said, it is a rather rubbish one, too. What a shame.
Yeah there's a making of video where its mentioned that while it was shot on film the final product was edited on video so they had to upscale. Its so disappointing. I prefer the more natural DVD video but I know there will be some that will want the "cleaned" version. I just don't like how artificially edited it looks. I made a screenshot comparison, although I didn't resize the R2J DVD. https://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/10283/
Trash upscale. What a waste of time and resources.
I'm currently remuxing the DVD video with the HD audio & subs. So maybe I'll upload soon.
I ordered this, with Wicked City + Demon City Limited Edition BluRay boxset. I want a remasterd HD version of Trigun (1998) is it too much to ask ?
Thanks for taking the time and effort to upload this. I am very greatful. Any chance you could upload the whole iso or bd folder please. Sadly, the subtitles and on-screen graphics have been lost in the mkv re-packaging.

You're very welcome. I didn't include any subs, because on the bluray disc, there were 3 subtitle tracks, 2 of which were somehow blank, and contained no actual data (god knows how the studio managed that), and the 3rd sub track was english, but the subtitles were so far away from what was actually being said, and so badly written, that I didn't even bother to include them as they were total trash. Other releases like 'mottoj' have way way better subs. Someone at the studio did these ones specifically for the bluray release, but did it incredibly badly to be honest, so I just left them out. There were no other subs or on-screen graphics included on the bluray disc. Also, my internet here at my new place is so awful, that it took me almost 48 hours just to upload this 20gb release (yes, my internet speed here is that bad).lol. Ended up using my phone as a wi-fi hotspot in the end, cus it gave better speed than my actual internet here at my new place, but, used up almost all of my monthly cell data allowance just to get this out there.lol. God I miss living somewhere with good internet. When I manage to get my internet improved, i'll look at doing an 'extras' release as a companion torrent to this release, with the interviews and extras etc from the bluray, and i'll make sure to include the subs in that release. I just wanted to get the initial release of the main episodes done first so people can have it. I'll bear your request in mind though and try to get the 'extras' torrent done in the near future. Thank you all for the assistance in seeding this. With my terrible internet now, it means a hell of a lot. Many thanks and enjoy. Be safe and be well everyone, and best of luck for 2021 all.
This has been my favourite Anime/Manga ever since it was shown on CH4 UK TV. I have literally been waiting 20+ years for a digital version with the UK soundtrack. I think it is fair to say that everyone is disappointed with this release. It is not the version we wanted, but the best we can get with a UK soundtrack. Further more, the USA seem to be getting the same release in March. Japan need to scan a new master from the original 35mm negative, but we don't know if or when this will ever happen. I paid £30 for this as it is limited edition. I would have made a backup myself, but do not have BD-ROM in my PC. No need to upload the whole bd folder, but I'd be most greatful if you could extract the IDX and SUB files for each episode. These will be very small files. Many thanks again. Everyone keep safe and hope for a better year

Same here my friend. Seeing this as a kid (being allowed to stay up super late for a child of about 8) and watching these on Channel 4's 'Late Licence' segment, is what got me into anime, and same as you, I have been waiting donkeys years for a digital release with the McFarlane soundtrack. Agreed, it's not perfect, but it's not bad. Wish they had gone back and done it properly from the 35mm negative though. I am somewhat knowledgeable on this kind of stuff, and have seen IDX and SUB files before. I have (this morning-11am in UK) extracted the subs from the disc, and they've come out as .SUP files, around 4-8mb each. Is that what you're after? As I say, I have downloaded stuff before that comes with IDX and SUB files before, but after having extracted the files from the disc, .SUP files is what's come out of it. Is there something else, or some other way I should be doing it to obtain the files you want?
Once Japan release a Blu-ray made from a new master, then there is a chance of a proper re-release in the UK hopefully. Fingers crossed! This should have clearly been a DVD release, but I guess they wanted to upsell it and charge more being on Blu-ray. The only benefits of doing it as a Blu-ray are 24fps and HD Audio formats. I am not an expert myself, but the SUP files should do. I can play about them. Thanks PS: I am thinking of uploading my original vhs in direct H264 capture format, so people can see the differences for themselves. You think it is worthwhile?

Gordon_Bennett (uploader)

User
Such a shame though All these years, and a studio makes the effort to do all this and finally give us a bluray, and they do it like this. Talk about doing it half-arsed.lol. Subs will be up shortly. I'd enjoy seeing an original VHS transfer :-)
Yes, to literally wait over 20 years and get a DVD disquised as a Blu-ray Lol I've not watched this new version fully, but noticed is has scenes with Japanese writing in it. The Manga VHS had scenes with all English writing. I will see what I can do. I happen to have a VHS player with HDMI and HDMI game capture box, so should do the job nicely. I will wait for the Sup files, cheers
Many thanks for the SUP files, work like magic on Media Player Classic. The Subtitles are to be used as followed: - Subtitle 1 = English overlay for Japanese writing scenes with no English subtitles (English - Rory McFarlane) Subtitle 2 = English overlay for Japanese writing scenes + English subtitles just for the Intro/End music) (English - Japanese Soundtrack) Subtitle 3 = English overlay for Japanese writing scenes + English subtitles all the way through, just for Japanese dialogue (Japanese - Japanese Soundtrack) So there are no subtitles for the English dialogue. The Japanese commentry is also missing from my US Final Collection!

Ahhh, cool. Well done mate. Thought they'd given us a load of lemon subs there for a minute.lol. Bad call on my part. When I have the available bandwidth i'll upload the extras torrent. On the bluray disc, they didn't put the episodes 1+2 commentary tracks in (as i'm sure you're aware, there never was any commentary done for episode 3). Instead, they did a separate piece of video that is around 1.5hrs long, which is just episodes 1+2 only, with a single audio track throughout, which is the commentary. Don't know why they didn't just add the commentaries into the main ones I uploaded, as an additional track. Anyway, i'll put an update here once i'm able to upload the Extras. May have to wait a while though till my mobile data resets, as i've used it all up at the moment getting the initial torrent out there. Will definitely be looking forward to that VHS version and will certainly keep an eye out for it. Many thanks Sicario. EDIT: The video used for the commentary tracks is exactly the same (Video Bitrate: 17mb/s) video as the main files on the main torrent. I'll just extract the commentary tracks and get rid of the video entirely, thereby getting rid of the 10gb+ video, and just upload the audio for u on here (and the subs that come with it). The commentary audio is in 256kb/s. EDIT 2: Commentary torrent is now active. I should've just uploaded the whole thing in the first place. Talk about arse-about-face.lol. Anyway, enjoy mate.
I don't blame you for thinking that since most players do not seem to support SUP files, not even Kodi! I don't know why they needed duplicate video tracks, sounds a waste. Yes, it might have been better if you uploaded the whole iso or bd folder, but it's all good mate, I appreciate what you did upload and got it playing like I wanted with the subs. Save your phone data until your wifi is sorted. Thanks for commentary files. I am not sure if wicked city, demon city and ninja scroll are of any interest to you, but they seem to have been mastered correctly on Blu-ray. Now I will have to see if Crying Freeman evers gets a Blu-ray release Lol PS: Can you recommend a good mkv multiplexer that also suppors SUP files ideally?
I know I might be asking for too much, but these files are over 6 GB each Lol. I mean could you please upload a more a compressed version?. not that it's necessary, I can still download this. it just it would much more easier to keep in a less size you know. I heard you are moving house, so if you have free time, then please try to do it

@Sicario: Ahhhh man, so they did the other releases properly, but dropped the ball when it came to Cyber City. What a shame :-( But yes, i'd definitely be interested in those if you have the time. With regard to a multiplexer, I've only ever used MKVmerge to be honest. I don't really know of any others. P.S. I just downloaded the 9.6GB release by Ratman. Until now, the best video quality i'd seen on here was the Mottoj release, but dude, Ratmans russian source video, with the new bluray audio, the quality is sublime. Take a look at it man. It really is loads better than the bluray even. @vtrigger: To be honest, with the quality of this bluray upscale, compression would make it even worse. I'd recommend downloading the 9.6GB Ratman release. It really is better quality and much clearer and sharper than the bluray, but with the high quality bluray audio. Seriously, check that one out, it really is the best i've ever seen, even better than the bluray.
Yes, from what I can see. They used new masters from Japan. I haven't shared them myself, but can point you in the right direction if were allowed to share sites or links on here? I downloaded mkvtoolnix last night, did the job. Used to use it a few years back. I could be wrong , but the R4 Australian DVD I have is pretty good if I remember correctly, PAL has 100 more lines and more shades of black compared to NTSC, shame about the PAL speedup though. That's why I appreciate this release, as it is the only release that is true cinema 24fps. Therefore, this is release has the best balance for me, if that makes sense. Even though it is not a true Blu-ray :(

Gordon_Bennett (uploader)

User
Yeah, please do man. It would be cool to have a look at those. I've always heard that the 'Russian source' DVD is meant to be the best, but i've never been able to find a copy online for purchase, or an australian one either. When I look at the bluray, the print is nice and clear, and the colour/white/black balance is far superior to any DVD. But, thats all it has going for it (and the good audio obviously). The actual image sharpness/definition is pretty bad, and the retained detail is terrible compared to a good DVD rip :-( I get what u mean though. If only we could take the best parts from the dvd sources, and the best parts from the bluray and combine them, that would be sublime.
Check out https://rarbgproxied.org/torrents.php?category=movies I go for x265 myself where available. Yes, I totally agree with you. I have noticed it is not as sharp and detailed as it should be, maybe due to the upscaling and so-called remastering. I will try and upload my R4 Australian DVD and UK VHS soon so you can see for yourself, but I have never uploaded before and don't know how to yet. I am sticking to the Blu-ray for now, as it is the only version with UK soundtrack and native 24fps. Maybe you can upload the whole Blu-ray, once your internet is sorted. Many thanks again!

User
Nice. Cheers for that mate. Will def be looking forward to R4 and VHS if u get the time to :-)
No worries. Let know me know how you get on with the site. I am digging the DVD and VHS out tomorrow. I seem to have misplaced them. Do you know much about bluray writers by any chance? I am getting one this week hopefully.

Gordon_Bennett (uploader)

User
Sweet. Looking forward to it :-) Don't really know much about BR drives tbh. I just bought a bog-standard 60 quid asus one off amazon when I was building my rig a few years back. Think they're much of a muchness these days now, as the general standard of these drives is so high now, you can't really go wrong.
what is the difference between this version and the Ratman release?
One is from the recently released remastered (upscaled 1080p) UK Blu-ray and the other is a custom project by Ratman. He has multiplexed the best DVD video source available with the HD audio tracks from the Blu-ray to give you the best of worlds. However, I have personally found that colours, video quality and frame rates vary throughout on both sources. Some scenes are better on one and some scenes on the other in my opinion.
Hi Gordon, I tried ripping my R4 DVD but it is faulty, was part of a faulty first batch so gets stuck at layer-change. Anyway, it's all good as it looks like the same source as the US Final Collection. The Ratman DVD source is clearly the best out there overall, although some scenes seem better on the blu-ray. I also cannot believe how different the colours are to the blu-ray. If I had to guess. I'd have to say the Ratman DVD source is the closest to the original master. I opted for a normal blu-ray writer that supports bd xl 128gb, but not a certified 4K drive. I know I cannot read rip 4K blu-rays. but wondering if I can still burn pre-ripped 4K blu-ray folders. You probably wouldn't know this though?

Gordon_Bennett (uploader)

User
Yeah, it does seem to be the most detailed-preserved version that ive seen so far. Erm, im not really sure how that works to be honest. I built my rig around 5 years ago, so mines just a standard bluray drive I think. Being able to rip and burn 4k blurays would be sweet though :-)
Yes, I totally agree. I cannot believe I have not come across this version before. It's definitely made from a new Japanese master. I asked Ratman for a link to the original DVD source used. I got my Blu-ray writer, so will play about with it.

Sweet. I visited RuTorrent and am getting the russian source dvd coming down right now, so ill have a look at it in the coming weeks and maybe try playing around with some enhancements (once ive found, and learned a program to do that kind of stuff with).
Snap, same here! It is a basic release like Ratman said, just Rus and Jap Audio with Rus Subs with no extras sadly. I found a Golgo 13 Blu-ray rip on Nyaa by accident if your interested, but it's 20gb!
Does anyone know if there is a better version of Crying Freeman OVA collection than the US 3-disc DVDs?
Hi Gordon, glm8892 has uploaded the Cyber City R4 DVD I have as a DVD Remux. Check out the screen comparions he put up, makes the Blu-ray look amazing in contrast!
