Complete Uta~Kata DVD rip. Slow and careful encoded video considering poor source, Dolby Digital AC3 audio untouched, VOBsubs converted to Advanced Sub Station. Transliterated titles in subs converted to better translated Wiki titles. Both Romanji and English subtitles in the opening and ending songs instead of alternated like the source for those of you studying Japanese. This is sub only since a dub was never made. Another oldie for you to enjoy.

Best video compared to what?

@yukino, best possible slow encode (>12hrs each episode) after much research using 8 core AMD at 4.7Ghz. There are only vertical scrolling artifacts on the credits due to source being interlaced. Any other artifacts are difficult to see in spite of the poor source quality. Of course best to me is purely subjective but how many orphan anime like this are going to get this much care and consider if they get made available at all?
not intending to complain but i just want to say that with hevc slow encoding does not necessarily mean good output. it is much more demanding on the cpu than the older encoders but the output could still look awful if you dont get all of its fancy parameters just right. maybe one day i too will play with these encoders to get my share of the hate comments :D

This can be true of any encoding. As with any endeavor there can be non intuitive and unintended outcomes. And especially hate comments I love to play with. :D I am really waiting to see what is thought of this outcome but the most anyone but me has right now is 46%.
The encode... is terrible. There are artifacts form interlacing all over the place. Because you left it at 29.970fps. The subs are arguably better then the fansubs, but the poor video quality is too distracting for me.
Is there any other share of this? I can't seem to find anything on this. We get what we have for now. Thanks!
Thanks! Great subs, and the video, as 480, is good too, for stupid me, I think.

@All, I did do quite a bit of work on the subs. @DmonHiro, there is only artifacts in the credits that I saw other than an occasional fleeting jaggy. And I checked it on a 65" TV. Which player do you use? I use MPC HC from KLite. The DVD video was really bad so I do not know if a frame rate change or anything else would help. What would you recommend? @SomaHeir, this is straight from the US DVD. I have not seen any JP DVD sources. There is an AnySpork AVI release without the OVA. That is why I did this orphan. @JABorn, glad you like it, No one is stupid to me. If you feel lacking, just learn more at your own pace. I am always willing to teach. I can be contacted on My Anilme List as BobP.
No, I'm afraid the artifacts and ghost frames are present all the time. I too use a big ass TV and MPC-HC. Yeah, the DVD was pretty bad, but the encodes that were already out since 2015 did not have this problem. You should not have left the video in its 29.97 fps format. Yeah, encoding from DVD is a pain in the ass.

@DmonHiro, I actually had it set for 30fps but I noticed at VFR so I guess it just stayed synced to the 29.97fps. I am trying a new encode just on episode 1 at 60fps CFR to see what I get. I will look at it tomorrow.
NOOOOOO! What the heck are you doing?! This needs to be 23.976 fps. making it 60fps is worse then 30fps. If it's VFR then you need to account for the sections.

I can see that. Then I will try 23.976fps CFR. I wish there was more discussion on this. Thanks.
