pick any of these reasons: it usually looks bad, takes up a lot of screen space, romaji is pointless it should just be kanji+kana only, for simulcasts it’s pointless before official lyrics are out or people are potentially “singing” the wrong thing (but if you only have the translation you can definitely fudge lines you aren’t 100% sure about)

Those circles are an order of magnitude less distracting than your standard karaoke. I can’t believe you’re trying to call me out on this. In general, I wish you would stop commenting on nyaa. I left the door open to including karaoke if its quality can make up for the fact that it’s extremely obtrusive—in fact, at least one of my releases has karaoke (A Place Further Than the Universe, not sure if there are others). So if something is less obtrusive, as those circles are (since, again, they’re basically static and so not really that distracting), the quality bar for them to clear is lower than karaoke would be.

I was focusing more on “unnecessary shit” part than “flashy”. At least kfx has some use. Those circles are the peak example of “unnecessary”. They don’t add anything and are extremely obtrusive.

I personally never cared for OP/ED kfx, the one I was referring to here is the kfx Kametsu did for the “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” segment in the show, which imo was really well done.
