Thank you for another season of PC. God bless you.
Thanks for subbing yet another season of Precure!
Great work all year and super fast as always. I'm not normally the commenting type, but I just want to say that what you do is greatly appreciated. I'm looking forward to HiSky next week, too. Thank you!
Thank you as always!! sorry for the very late reply though... looking forward to hirosky too
Honestly, your stuff is so much better then the official subtitles it's almost sad. Like... how the hell can't TOEI make decent subs already in 2023. It's been years since they started.
Getting paid means they'll actually approach their work with a certain degree of seriousness and at least try to maintain a standard. the funny thing is the official subs for the season CR did themselves seem totally fine so it really is toei fucking it up

I appreciate the kind words! To be clear, I make plenty of mistakes too, every release has at least a few things to fix (like "you're" at 20:55 which I just noticed), though I always put out v2 subs as well. I don't know who Toei contracts out to for subbing, but I imagine the workers have crunch and deadlines and all that, like most other corporate subbers. That's also probably why there are rarely v2 official subs for most shows, unless there are major issues. To a company, it's not worth paying wages just to fix small mistakes. Plus I wouldn't expect them to necessarily be Precure fans, they're doing a job for money. So I'm sympathetic to that side of it too
I hope you make the timming better. Not so fast to come in, not so long to come out.
you are such a blessed person doing god's work. all the best always, friend.
cant wait for next PC season to be dissapointed once again, LETS GOOO! in all seriousness, thanks for the hard work Serenae, youre one of the good guys
welp that's the end
Where was this in the episode? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGlOIrpwnbE
I just recently picked up Precure again after a long break, and I thought CR’s subs for Delicious Party (via SubsPlease) were absolutely great. Is this even better? How? Or does Toei have other English subs? Or are you guys talking about earlier series?
Yes, talking about Delicious Party, and they are atrocious. They're not even CR's subs either my dude, it's Toei hiring some company out of korea or philippines. The only language that matters is the original, they don't actually care about ENG subs, they're just doing the minimum possible so they can make more money by throwing it on foreign streaming services too. The subs are serviceable, just barely above machine-translated. But they will sometimes leave out important details that changes the message/tone. And they are also very cold and stiff and clearly by someone who's not a native english speaker. every single episode has weird stiff examples like this https://i.ibb.co/V342WPk/Subs-Please-Delicious-Party-Precure.jpg and it's always been that way for CR or Toei or other companies, the bare minimum to get by. Healin' Good CR (Toei) subtitles were especially bad. One of my favorite episodes was 36 when Hinata tries to study hard, and the TL person completely botched the subs, obviously the meta/language jokes just whooshed right over their head. https://i.ibb.co/y5t3MWx/Subs-Please-Healin-Good-Precure-36.jpg Makes me sad to know people are watching an inferior version of Pretty Cure and not getting everything that the directors and writers intended. Glad there are fan subs, not even just serenae, but previous TL anons from previous seasons too. I think Over-Time did some at one point too
Thanks! By the way, how does one even find out whether the translation streamed on CR is done by CR or this third-party contractor of Toei’s? The reason I thought highly of the official subs is that I saw them beautifully rephrase dialogue around things that are usually awkward to translate: that was definitely the work of a human competent in both Japanese and the target language. It would be interesting to compare those lines, but I don’t remember what they were and it genuinely makes me sad. Anyway, the translation seemed consistently accurate (unless some of the rare vocabulary I lack was mistranslated), and the subs easy to read, too. But I’m not qualified to rate stiffness, because at the end of the day I’m not a native speaker myself. And you can’t argue with the errors in the picture, of course.
