I like the effort and the fact that someone is working on this show! The TLs for the OP are not accurate in the slightest though: - "似合う言葉ひとつだって / 何も言えない僕だ" -> "Your radiant smile is just too much / It's almost indescribable"…? Where does radiant smile come from? - "I was always trapped by my narrow view" is made-up and "こんなに狭い世界で" ['in such a small world'] isn't reflected anywhere, unless you're claiming this is the "translation" of that line - "軽やかに 軽やかに" ['It's so light, it's so light'] to "And as we're dancing, and as we're dancing" is totally invented and reflects the OP animation of them dancing, not the lyrics. - When I was translating the song myself, I was considering what to do with "跳ねる背" to make not sound stupid – but I guess you just went with… "beauty"? What's going on?
Warning: the above comment may not have any idea what it's talking about.
@eli Another dipshit like Lolisub. Get the fuck out of here.
I didn't know that GJM was offering music fanfic classes. Can anyone participate or only those who steal official subtitles? >dipshit like Lolisub. ![alt text](https://i.imgur.com/4BewOOO.jpg)
@eli Well, first and foremost, it's important to note that a large part of song translation is about interpretation, particularly when tied to an anime! When I translate an opening/ending, I take into account both the visuals and themes of the show. I highly recommend you consider doing this as well, because you'll likely end up with far more cohesive lyrics. As for your individual points: - The first verse is about something being so bright that [they] have to look away, and the thing they're looking away from is something they can't find the words to describe. Radiant smile is a suitable object to fit this description onto, given the themes of the show and the imagery shown in the opening. - 世界 here likely isn't referring to the literal "world", but the world of [their] mind. Given that the verse is about the sound of laughter saving the person, I think this one is a fairly sane interpretation. - Your translation of 軽やかに here isn't accurate, since に is modifying 軽やか to be an adverb, which is then modifying 跳ねる背 (jumping/hopping back). Read literally, this is something like "I was enraptured by [her] lightly bouncing back". Put together with the visuals, this can cohesively be expressed as being captivated by the beauty of [her] dancing.
@LoliSub Hang yourself you fucking faggot.

@motbob You know me and you know I am making this comment in good faith. @vanquisher I don't know who that is and don't follow dumb Nyaa drama. I prefer more accurate TLs and figured this was worth pointing out and asking about. Please lay off the hostility. @Zedjones Thanks for the reply! Re: "I take into account both the visuals and themes of the show" – I think this is fine to do as long as the song doesn't already exist and hasn't been written solely for the show…? Animation often is not completed by the time a song gets written or commissioned (IIRC there are some Sakuga Blog posts talking about all the different ways this process can look at different studios, and depending on the production) and so I actually don't think this is a good rule of thumb. Musicians may know about the themes of the show but not what's going to be animated/shown during the different points of their song. Did you watch the [official music video for the song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfnZBzuVKX0) and take that into account too? That could also be argued to be something on which to base translations. For song lyrics (like poetry, or other writing in verses), of course there's also always the question of whether to read lines as separate or combined – and most song lyrics intend both at different points – which affects things like your last point as to whether certain readings are "accurate" or not, which is really up for pretty broad interpretation. I read all your points, though, and understand where you're coming from, though FWIW I don't think I'd ever arrive at _such_ liberal interpretations of things myself. Or, I'm not OK with inserting that much authorial intent into things _personally_, but I get that others are. Which is totally fine, and I'm sorry if my initial comment came off as accusatory or hostile! It's all about different styles and individual processes at the end of the day, so thanks for giving me some more insight into yours!
@eli Thanks for being civil, I’m glad we can have a productive conversation lol. No worries about any perceived aggression from your first message, I know it can be hard to express things over text. I did watch the official music video! I think one place we might differ in our philosophies is this: I would translate the song different in the context of an anime OP, that music video, or with no visuals at all. The two with visuals would have the visuals taken into account (and the show OP would have the show taken into account), and the third would be a more generic interpretation of the lyrics. Also yes, sorry, “accurate” isn’t a very helpful word and I’m not sure why I used it. What I mean to say is, I think you might have misunderstood the part of speech of that word (not implying that you necessarily did, just based on your first comment). You don’t have to interpret it as being tied specifically to the following line, ofc, but it is the adverbially form of that adjective, meaning the song is saying that something is doing something else “lightly”. [Often](https://ejje.weblio.jp/content/%E8%BB%BD%E3%82%84%E3%81%8B%E3%81%AB) this is used to describe somebody’s movement. Not that I’m necessarily opposed to reinterpreting the exact conjugation of phrases in a song, either, since I do that myself lol. I was mostly commenting on that originally since you asserted that my version wasn’t accurate, which to me didn’t seem fair. (Had to delete and re-add this because nyaa editing was broken lmao)
i will NOT read all of this
> You know me and you know I am making this comment in good faith. Come on, man. How can you say this after what you submitted for Onimai? I saw what you wrote about your translation on Twitter—you yourself called it a shitpost. If that's not bad faith, what is? My *entire* experience with you is you submitting something to me that was not translated earnestly and failing to disclose that fact to me. So forgive me for getting my panties in a bunch when you see fit to criticize other people's *actual* attempts at song translation.

@Zedjones No worries! Thanks for your kind response. The word "light" in English can also be used in that sense if I'm understanding you right, to describe either paleness in color or with a meaning of 'not heavy' (like a person's fluttering movements!) & that 2nd one is what I was thinking of too, so my bad if that didn't get conveyed properly (even English can be difficult when it comes to talking about words!) :) But like I mentioned before, 跳ねる背 was throwing me for a big loop as to how to make it not sound bad when I took a brief shot at it, so in the end I think you did a better job than I could have done here, ha. I'm definitely glad to see others who enjoy the show working on it + putting out releases that aren't just auto-rips from CR like so much stuff is today! (Their script could be worked on a little too, of course, but ehh, time… maybe for the BDs…) @motbob Wait, what? I used literal Unicode emoji characters in part of a word, Latin vocab, a huge-ass TL note in the video, "Dairy Queen®", "_n'est-ce pas?_" (in a non-French context), "eyebrows on fleek", etc. in and you thought it was 100% the most accurate TL possible? You were using a different OP TL every week, including ones with _extremely_ memey lines on purpose & that _were less accurate_ (if that word still holds any actual meaning lol) than mine… so I decided to submit a fun (but still pretty darn good/valid!) one to you as well – which I spent a ton of time on to make the _most fun_ possible while still retaining the original nature of things – and that was absolutely disclosed. A shitpost doesn't mean something's _wrong_ or not done in good faith… so I think maybe we use that word differently? My OP for you was TL'd incredibly earnestly – it was serious & sincere, but still a joke, for laughs, which was the entire point. I think there's a big misunderstanding here, and I'm very happy to chat more, so feel free to DM or whatever's best for you, but for the sake of others & this release let's not spam up the comments here.
I read all that and some how fentanyl got into my system. I have a fake $20 brb.
A TL couldn't and shouldn't be exact. Some phrases haven't exact meaning on your language . You must substitute with a phrase with a meaning on your language .According the story, the current frames. I saw a few different classic translation, with different outcomes. All come from pros. I don't really care about OP and ED, i just skip it. More annoying when no signs translated, improper basic grammar improper use of names, missing honorifics , misuse words, change the original names . Maybe, when i will be old enough to be deaf, i could enjoy US made subs.
I'm going to chime in in a non-judgmental manner since song translation is an art unto itself, and not one I consider myself particularly good at. - 似合う言葉ひとつだって / 何も言えない僕だ --> To me it sounds like a certain word springs to mind, and that word is probably "love", but he can't bring himself to admit it. I think my interpretation makes sense considering that the OP ends with "Could [this feeling] be what we call love?" - こんなに狭い世界で --> I actually quite like that entire stanza so I'm fine with it - 軽やかに 軽やかに --> I had pretty much the same interpretation as zedjones. inb4 my own crimes against translation are pointed out

>I don’t really care about OP and ED, i just skip it chaotic neutral and yeah, same interpretation here @Guncannon!
@Guncannon Yeah, I think the interpretation of those two lines will largely change how you TL that stanza. To me, they seem to be more tied to the thing that's so bright [he] has to look away, namely the person being referred to. However, it's equally valid to interpret it as his being unable to describe the feeling that he's experiencing upon seeing said thing [person] (that's blinding him). The fact that there's no explicit subject makes it impossible to say for sure lmao.
A civilized discussion on Nyaa? Now that's rare.
Bobby on his way to get N1 in order to slap Eli IRL for his translation crimes (he didn't do them got staged).
me : google translate: go brrrr
Thanks a lot for the OP subs, Zedjones. Requesting someone to add the ED subs too for the next episode, which is already out for a while btw.
I am planning to do the ED as well, just hella busy right now.
