Daicon Film’s Return of Ultraman (1983) - A fan produced short by Daicon Film, based on Tsuburaya’s Ultraman franchise, it was Hideaki Anno’s directorial debut, who stars as Ultraman and is also credited for optical effects and designs.

Cutie Honey (2004) - Based on Go Nagai’s magical girl series, this film was directed by Hideaki Anno, who co-wrote the screenplay with Rumi Takahashi, and handled the lyrics for the insert song Black Claw Arrives.

Lorelei (2005) - An adaptation of the novel by Harutoshi Fukui, it was directed by Shinji Higuchi in his directorial debut. Hideaki Anno was an assistant storyboarder and has a cameo. In addition, Yutaka Izubuchi designed the watertight clothing, Mamoru Oshii created the marking for a B-29 plane and Yoshiyuki Tomino makes a guest appearance.

Aegis (2005) - Adapted from the novel by Harutoshi Fukui and directed by Junji Sakamoto, Hideaki Anno did special effects storyboarding for the naval battle scenes. The film was also edited by BAFTA nominated Hollywood veteran William Anderson, best known for collaborating with Peter Weir.

Sinking of Japan (2006) - Adapted from the novel by Sakyo Komatsu and directed by Shinji Higuchi, Hideaki Anno handled the mechanical design, and has a small guest appearance alongside Moyoco Anno. Yoshiyuki Tomino makes a guest appearance.

God Warrior Appears in Tokyo (2012) - A short film prequel to Hayao Miyazaki’s Nausicaa directed by Shinji Higuchi. The screenplay was written by Hideaki Anno, who also produced the film with Toshio Suzuki, and Anno worked on the optical effects.

Shin Godzilla (2016) - A reboot of Toho’s long-running Godzilla franchise, simultaneously the first instalment of the Reiwa series and the loosely-tied Shin Japan Heroes Universe, this film was directed by Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi. Higuchi directed the VFX and collaborated with Anno on the storyboards, alongside Kazuya Tsurumaki, Mahiro Maeda, Masayuki and Ikki Todoroki. Anno wrote the screenplay, handled the sound design (even providing a voice cameo for a firefighter), created the design for Godzilla and co-edited the film with Atsuki Sato.

Shin Ultraman (2022) - The second live-action entry in Shin Japan Heroes Universe and a reboot of Tsuburaya’s long-running Ultraman franchise, the film was directed by Shinji Higuchi. Higuchi collaborated on the cinematography with Hideaki Anno, Masayuki, Katsuro Onoue, Osamu Ichikawa, Keizo Suzuki, Ikki Todoroki and Linto Ueda. Higuchi, Anno, Masayuki, Todoroki and Ueda worked on storyboards alongside Kazuyoshi Katayama and Akitoshi Yokoyama. Anno wrote the screenplay, co-edited with Yohei Kurihara, and co-produced the film with Kazutoshi Wadakura, Masaki Kawashima, Takehiko Aoki and Tomoya Nishino. Anno did concept design, motion capture performance for Ultraman and helped out with song selection.

Shin Kamen Rider (2023) - The third live-action entry in Shin Japan Heroes Universe and a reboot of Toei and Shotaro Ishinomori’s long-running Kamen Rider franchise. Inspired by the original TV series (1971-1973) and Ishinomori’s manga, it was directed by Hideaki Anno, who also wrote the screenplay, did concept design, helped out with motion capture and co-edited the film with Emi Tsujita.
