Because Toei fucked this shit up.
Quoted from a post by Sonic Retro user Chimes:
I’ve taken it upon myself to white-balance the full intro animation as well as doing basic color correction.
Obviously, this isn’t anywhere near as good as it could be, and definitely not as good as what groups like Seed of Might do for Dragon Ball. This was more so made as an experiment if nothing else.

Where is the video sourced from?
From Venny’s release of the Sonic CD intro from the 25th anniversary DVD, which is the best quality version of the intro: https://nyaa.iss.one/view/1276275
Why not use Sonic Origins’ opening/the 2011 mobile release?
Sonic Origins uses an AI upscaled opening that introduces artifacts and some general AI messiness and the 2011 mobile release has the cutscenes cropped to 16:9. I wanted to have this be in the original aspect ratio without any AI upscaling.
Why didn’t you include the ending cutscenes?
Unfortunately, the ending cutscenes don’t really have any decent-quality releases. The best version of them is in Sonic Gems Collection, but even that’s pretty low-quality.
