Gilgamesh https://anidb.net/anime/1085 Source: US/R1 DVD (ADV, "Thinpak" collection version) Video: x264/AVC, 706x476, 16:9 Audio: Japanese, AAC CBR 128kbit/s stereo Subtitles: English, ASS softsubs. "Set in a future where the sky has been changed into a giant mirror, two teenage children are caught in a struggle between a group of super-powered beings and a mysterious woman's team of children aiming to stop them. " (IMDB) This series has a very unique character design and art style, I liked it very much once I got used to it but it will turn away some people. Would be nice to someday see it on Blu-Ray with a decent transfer, but I guess it's unlikely to happen. Notes: The DVD source is somewhat overcompressed (you'll see it especially in the end credits) and a little noisy, but otherwise seemed to be decent quality transfer until around episode 7-9 when suddenly rainbows and dotcrawl started happening and the general visual quality went down considerably. From then on the quality goes up and down for the rest of the series. Rainbows and dotcrawl should be mostly fixed, other than that it's pretty much untouched. Denoising (even with very light settings) turned out to be too destructive for this, the series uses a lot of various effects like added noise, static, film grain, blur, focus shifts, etc. which denoising would fuck up more or less, and the hand drawn backgrounds would have lost illegal amounts of detail. I know many people don't care that much about such things, I do though. DVD subtitles were OK (found only one typo), just needed extensive joining and splitting, and the usual positioning and lyrics things. -X
